Tour de Romandie - Prologue: Neuchatel, 3.87km

Geraint Thomas got his Tour de Romandie challenge off to a great start after setting the fifth fastest time in the opening prologue.

The Welshman negotiated the technical course in a time of five minutes and 10 seconds to place himself firmly in the opening mix.

Just four seconds off the fastest time of Jan Tratnik (Bahrain Merida), Thomas was resplendent in the colours of British time trial champion.

The stage marked the team's debut as Team INEOS, with the riders donning a one-off transition kit for the duration of the Swiss stage race.

Filippo Ganna was the next Team INEOS rider home in 16th on the day, with the action set to head into the hills on Thursday.

"In a couple of places I thought maybe I could have gone a couple of kilometres quicker, but I think it was a decent start all in all. It’s the same for everyone but it’s a bit of a shock to the system to go straight out there and put in that kind of effort."
