Vuelta a Espana – Stage 15: Tineo – Santuario del Acebo, 154.4km

Tao Geoghegan Hart put up an impressive fight on a tough 15th stage at the Vuelta a Espana, finishing third from the breakaway.
The young Brit was joined up the road by teammate Vasil Kiryienka and had the legs to push on up the steep slopes of the decisive Puerto del Acebo.
Geoghegan Hart was involved in the sprint for second with Ruben Guerreiro (Katusha-Alpecin) but neither rider was able to haul back lone stage winner Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma).
Kiryienka was also full of riding during Sunday’s stage, attacking ahead of the day’s first climb before combining with Tao in a group of 17 riders. With the peloton content to let the break carve out an advantage, Kiryienka pushed on again late on, carrying a 45-second gap into the final climb alongside Sergio Samitier (Euskadi-Murias).

The GC battle raged behind, with Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) marking the attack of Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), with the pair going clear and putting more time into their rivals.

"I was feeling okay out there. It was really nice to have Kiry alongside me in the break and we had a clear plan of how the stage would go.

"In hindsight I would have raced the last climb differently, as we lost a lot of ground in the middle flat section of the climb, when there was a group of five or six of us still behind Sepp. I should have been more aggressive and gone with the moves at the base of the climb. But that’s bike racing, hindsight is a great thing. I’ll keep trying over the next week."
Vuelta a Espana stage 15 result:
