Tao Geoghegan Hart impressed by riding his way into the day’s breakaway on stage six at the BinckBank Tour.

After a fast start out of Riemst there was an intense fight to get up the road, with the young Brit showing good legs to make his way into a quality six-man unit.

The group saw their advantage tip over five minutes, but as the pace increased behind, the pendulum swung back towards the peloton on a hilly run-in.

The move was caught with 30km to go following the famed Cote de St Roch climb. That was also the catalyst for the race to blow apart, and despite a second dig from Geoghegan Hart, he was forced to slip back as the GC men launched their moves.

Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) and Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) pushed clear and the pair sprinted it out in Houffalize, with Wellens taking the stage, and Dumoulin moving into a four-second lead over the Belgian.

Sebastian Henao had been part of a chase faction following the final pair of climbs and finished in a group just behind team-mate Geoghegan Hart, the pair coming home in 29th and 31st places respectively.
