Tour of Britain – Stage two: Kelso – Kelso, 165.9km

Ben Swift sprinted to sixth place in Kelso after an exciting finish to day two at the Tour of Britain.

The British national champion kept up a consistent run of top-10 finishes on a day that saw Team INEOS shake up the final run-in.

After Dylan van Baarle started turning the screw with 25km to go it was Pavel Sivakov who attacked on the Dingleton ascent.

Opening out a small gap, Sivakov’s move forced the peloton to react behind, with the increase in pace splitting the bunch and distancing, among others, overnight leader Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma).

At the finish it was Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) who edged out the sprint, with van Baarle, Michal Golas, Sivakov, Eddie Dunbar and Gianni Moscon all finishing in the peloton.

Reaction

- Pavel Sivakov

"It was a hectic final, going into the last climb. We’ve got a strong team here and we wanted to put some pressure and create some difficulties for Groenewegen and others, which we did, so it was a solid day for us.

"Personally I tried to attack and took the opportunity, but there was a long way to go and I got chased down. It was a good test for my legs and I felt good, so all in all, a good day.

"It’s my first time racing in front of British crowds. They’ve been very supportive as the home WorldTour team in the race and we’re all looking forward to the rest of the race now."
