Job Title: 2x Part-Time Physical Therapists, Team INEOS Cycling (Physiotherapist/Osteopath/Chiropractor)

O.4 FTE (approx. 70-80 days)

This is a very exciting time as the team are aiming to expand its medical structure and add a diverse skillset to the current therapy team.

Team INEOS is a professional cycling team; seven times winners of the world’s greatest cycle race, the Tour de France since the team’s creation in 2009. The organisation prides itself on being and continuing to be pioneers within sport, and this philosophy is incorporated in all aspects of the organisation. We aim for excellence by having a coach led, rider centred approach in all things we do, and are looking for a new on-race therapist to work as part of the medical team, aiming to effectively assess and manage the team’s musculoskeletal health and wellbeing.

Job Purpose:

The role of the therapist in Team INEOS is to provide the highest quality of evidence-based physiotherapy practice to riders and staff within the team.

Key Tasks (deliverables and responsibilities)

  • Consistently document and manage all medical information, interactions and events as per medico-legal requirements, while upholding athlete-therapist confidentiality always;
  • Compliance with Team INEOS Minimal Medical Standards as a way of ensuring world-class diligence and professionalism always;
  • To play an active role in the appraisal system of the team, and always seeking feedback to improve all aspects of your performance and development;
  • To observe, monitor and react to the ever-evolving world of sports medicine, keeping up to date with latest research and any changes to professional regulations;
  • Identify and establish appropriate medical networks at each location which the team travels to;
  • Accompany riders to medical appointments when indicated and ensure all necessary documents are being obtained, properly communicated and filed;
  • Support the Medical team, Sport Directors and Coaches on the functional status of riders under your care;
  • Communicate relevant information to the dedicated team governance lead representative regarding insurance and worker’s compensation, including communicating this to the relevant colleagues in the team’s finance department;
  • Maintain adequate stocks of medical and emergency supplies at races/training camps for riders and staff;
  • Collaborate with the team’s medical department as it relates to the riders’ medical management;
  • Ensure sport medicine interventions are aligned with Team INEOS and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy standards, including but not limited to: appropriate documentation of emergency procedures, professional licensure, medical records, policies and procedures, etc.
  • Interest in medical research and audit, undertaking an annual audit/quality improvement project with the team
  • Be familiar with anti-doping regulations and procedures, including attending doping control with riders, unless essential medical duties take priority.
  • Deliver physical evaluations, rehabilitative and emergency care relevant to the functional demand of the rider and environment (clinical diagnosis, therapeutic care and emergency response);
  • Enforcement of Team INEOS’s strict anti-doping policy, including complying with the team’s policy on issue of TUEs.
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge of cycling-related medical problems. Contribute to Team INEOS’s medical expertise in the area of cycling sports medicine.
  • Provide written summaries of key issues for internal distribution, when required.
  • Be part of a medical team putting forwards ideas, being inquisitive, investigating, researching and developing new ideas on how best to manage injury and recovery, maintain health etc.
  • Comply with all Team INEOS rider and staff policies and protocols.
  • Understand, adhere to and implement all Team INEOS values.
  • Assist, where possible, the promotion of Team INEOS activities.
  • Comply with Team INEOS ‘Physiotherapy Standard Operating Procedures Document’ and adhere to CSP Guidelines.
Requirements

  • University-degree in Physiotherapy (Physical therapy in the USA) or certification in Athletic Therapy (Athletic Training in the USA);
  • Valid CPR certification and Emergency Sports First Responder or EMT courses;
  • Experience with manual therapy, exercise therapy and emergency care;
  • Experience working with elite-level athletes and travelling teams
  • Working knowledge of computer software;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; other languages are encouraged and desirable.
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Membership of the ACPSEM working towards silver or Gold level status
  • Wide ranging manual therapy postgraduate courses are favourable

Key challenges

  • Providing a high standard of physiotherapy care always, but due to nature of travelling, at times working in autonomy
  • Play a proactive role within the therapy team’s Continuous Professional Development Programme
  • To be required to do 70-80 days of travel due to the demands of the cycling calendar with races and training camps
  • Working with different nationalities and cultures, all aligned to the same goals
  • Maintaining a positive, proactive approach always
  • Coping with the demands and expectations of individual riders and coaches
  • Working as part of a wider medical support team.

Salary: Dependent on experience

Selection process will take place on 4th December 2019 which will be an assessment day consisting of competency-based interview and a clinical assessment.
