Vuelta a Espana – Stage 20: Arenas de San Pedro – Plataforma de Gredos, 190.4km

Tao Geoghegan Hart continued to demonstrate his strong third week legs with another impressive breakaway performance at the Vuelta a Espana.

The Brit was again able to head up the road, attacking on the downhill section following the Alto de Navatalgordo, bridging across to what became a five-man move on a mountainous final general classification day.

The weather closed in, as did the general classification contenders, with the catch made on the penultimate climb. First to catch up with Tao was Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), en route to a stage winning victory.

Geoghegan Hart was able to hang tough in the select lead group, finishing 12th and securing the most aggressive rider award on the day.

Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) held firm to all but secure the overall victory, with the final day taking the form of a Madrid circuit finale on Sunday.
Reaction

- Tao Geoghegan Hart

"I tried my best. I think there are definitely some pretty big improvements I can make. It's my second and a half Grand Tour so it's good to be feeling this good on the last day and still have the power. I can't be too disappointed.

"We waited for Pogacar when he was coming but he was too strong. We waited again on the top for the group, as it was pretty obvious they were coming pretty quick with four Movistar pulling.

"I just tried to do the best I could. It seemed like everyone was on the limit except maybe Primoz (Roglic)."
