Kristoffer Halvorsen and Leonardo Basso mixed it up on the opening stage as the Abu Dhabi Tour came down to a sprint.

The duo scrambled for position during a messy bunch kick, eventually finishing 13th and 14th respectively, narrowly missing out on the top 10 in a star-studded field.

Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates) found a clear path to the finish and powered to victory and an early race lead. Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton-Scott) opened up the sprint early but was narrowly edged out at the line by Kristoff and Andrea Guardini (Bardiani-CSF).

Team Sky spent the day looking to stay out of trouble, before moving up ahead of the final 10km. Luke Rowe enjoyed a return to action following a broken leg, and the Welshman also played his part in the closing stages.
