Vuelta a Espana – Stage 19: Avila – Toledo, 165.2km

David de la Cruz once again flew the flag for Team INEOS in the day’s break on a tricky 19th stage at the Vuelta a Espana.
The Spaniard made his way into an early 11-man move that went clear on the day’s only categorised climb – the Alte de la Paramera.
With a stage win up for grabs, the peloton never gave the move much of an advantage, with De La Cruz consumed by the bunch ahead of the finale in Toledo.

Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) launched a late acceleration out of the break and was narrowly able to stay clear at the finish, with Tao Geoghegan Hart the team's top finisher (26th) in the peloton.

A dramatic day saw the peloton split apart by a large crash involving, among others, race leader Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) and Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana).

In the end the groups came back together, with the general classification set to be decided on Saturday's mountain finale.

- Owain Doull

"I was a little bit further back (from the crash), mid-bunch. I came barrelling around the corner and saw the majority of Jumbo-Visma on the floor. I know a couple of other guys went down. It was wet and windy. I don't know if someone put the hammer down afterwards but it was in groups for a while. Not an easy day."
